Important Information About Using the GaleNet Databases

GaleNet is sold only to libraries, primarily for use on library Internet
stations. Some libraries also arrange for their patrons or students to
access GaleNet databases from home. You must check with your local library
to find out if they offer GaleNet Internet or CD databases--and how and
where you can access the databases.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A GALENET USERNAME AND PASSWORD--

Access to these GaleNet databases are provided ONLY through libraries. If a
library has not given you a GaleNet URL with a username/password, please
check with your local libraries to see whether any offer GaleNet access,
and if so, whether they can provide you with a username and password for
access from home. GaleNet cannot directly provide you with a username and
password.

IF YOU ARE USING A LIBRARY INTERNET COMPUTER--

GaleNet access from library Internet computers is usually automatic. If
you are having trouble accessing GaleNet from a library terminal, please
ask your librarian for help.

IF YOU ARE USING AN INTERNET COMPUTER OUTSIDE OF A LIBRARY--

Access from outside a library may require you to enter a username and will
always ask you for a library card number or password. If you are having
trouble accessing GaleNet from outside a library and have a username and
library card number (or password), you may be using an incorrect URL. You
can try this URL:

http://galenet.gale.com/a/acp/rpa/

You must know the library's username and what password or ID code (e.g.,
library card number or student ID number) to use. If you do not have the
required username and password or ID, please contact your library.

IF YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD OR ID DO NOT WORK--

Check that your Internet browser has cookies and JavaScript turned on
(enabled). We recommend that you use Netscape or

Explorer of version 4 or higher. Be sure that you enter usernames and
passwords in the correct upper and lower case (capitalization) and that
your CAPS LOCK key is not accidentally on.

If you still cannot access GaleNet, please contact your library. The
library may test your password/ID and either give you a new one or contact
us for assistance. The library usually maintains the list of valid library
card numbers (or passwords) on a webserver at their institution.
